Opaque panel
The material must stop light through its surface. Side tracks cannot compensate for pinholes, a loose weave, or a fabric sold only as room darkening. Check the material classification separately from the frame design.
Top interface
Look at the point where the panel meets the top frame or housing. An open gap above a roller tube or pleated stack can create a bright horizontal line. A complete framed system should show how this area is controlled when the covering is fully closed.
Bottom closure
The bottom bar needs a defined landing point. If it stops above the sill, twists, or meets an uneven surface, light can spread across the lower edge. Check whether the bottom closure is part of the frame or depends on the window sill.
Corners and seals
Four separate edges meet at four corners. A seal that is stretched, folded, overlapped, or cut short can leave a small opening where two otherwise effective parts meet. Product instructions should explain how supplied seals or brushes are placed and trimmed.
Frame fit

Measure the support space, not only the glass
For an inside-mounted frame, measure the actual recess where the system will sit. Take the width at the top, middle, and bottom. Take the height at the left, center, and right. Use the smallest result from each set unless the manufacturer gives different instructions.
Then check depth. A recess can be wide enough but too shallow once a lock, crank, screen, or inward-opening sash is included. Measure hardware in both its resting and operating positions.
